About Anne Severn Williamson
Early influences
Anne grew up on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, USA, overlooking the scenic battlefields of the Civil War. The beauty of the Appalachian woodlands and nature trails influenced her lifelong love of Nature. A devoted student of the arts, Anne's second home was North Chattanooga's Dance/Theatre Workshop, established by Nancy Lane Wright, a very influential mentor whose unique exercise system launched the careers of numerous performing arts students.
Going Places
After graduating from Columbia University in NYC with a BA in Program in the Arts, Anne studied painting with Jack Stewart, listed in Who's Who in American Watercolor. Anne apprenticed in both the Reproductions Department and the William Watson Art History Library inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art and in the Literary Department of Circle Repertory Theatre. Anne's favorite painter is Andrew Wyeth, with his emotional realism and precise details. One of his sensitive watercolors is pictured here.
Ways and Means
Williamson went on to teach visual and performing arts in Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, and Colorado in both private and public schools, mostly in rural, impoverished regions. Anne won several grants for her creative writing, including a community drama award from the Kentucky Arts Council. Anne established and directed the Mountain Shadow Dance Theatre, a children's ballet and creative movement company, to support young artists in rural American communities.
Our Homestead
As her journey unfolded in the arts, so did Anne's involvement with Appalachian history. She and her husband currently own and manage Ghost Horse Highland Farm near the Daniel Boone National Forest. The Ghost Horses are a rare collection of naturally gaited equines with white or cream-colored coats and blue eyes. Their bloodlines originated in the hills of eastern Kentucky. The Ghost Horses are featured characters in Anne's novel series THE FAIRY LORE of GHOST HORSE HOLLOW. Readers may cross the bridge from fantasy to reality as the MacKennon homesteaders ride through thrilling adventures.
